How do I get started? We LOVE visitors, so just come on in and take look around. You can check out our class structure on the website, but the best way is to stop in and visit the club. You'll see first hand what the sport is all about, talk with and watch other fencers, meet the coaches, and discuss the best way for you to get started. Optimal times to visit are during weeknights between 5 pm - 8 pm. Hours of Operation are 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Monday thru Fridays and 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Saturdays.

Do I need to purchase my own equipment?Auburn Fencing Club provides all necessary fencing equipment free of charge for our Beginner and Adult Classes. After taking the classes, if you decide to continue with the sport, either recreationally or competitively, we’ll help you order what’s best for you. We also have a large in-house inventory for your convenience, and we offer starter packages that provide excellent value to get you started. Equipment sales are available to everyone, not just members.

Is fencing safe?Fencing is one of the SAFEST sports. Fencing as a sport is not like the movies portray it with sharp blades and deadly blows. Fencing swords are not pointed nor designed to hurt people. The fencers use swords with blunt tips and wear white fencing jackets composed of several different materials including cotton, kevlar and polyethylene mesh, which are the most resistant fibers in the world while being very light. Like any sport, there's always some risk of injury, but modern fencing is designed to minimize that risk. In fact, fencing is often ranked as one of the safest sports based on injury statistics. According to studies and reports from organizations like the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS), fencing has one of the lowest rates of injury per participant compared to other sports. Additionally, Auburn Fencing Club maintains strict code of conduct and rules concerning wearing the appropriate fencing attire.
